WELCOME TO CATECHESIS:
A Four-Session Online Introduction
to the Church's Vision of Catechesis
February + March Registration Now Open!

Welcome to Catechesis is designed for parish leaders, catechists, and interested adults in the parish who want to learn about the Church’s vision of catechesis today. Each weekly 75-minute session addresses a key question for handing on faith in our time:
- Why does the Church offer catechesis?
- What is evangelizing catechesis?
- Who is involved in catechesis?
- How do we put the vision of catechesis into practice?
Weekly interactions and “talking point” sheets informed by the Directory for Catechesis (Vatican, 2020) will help participants understand the Church’s vision for making disciples and answer the focus questions.
Instruction takes place on Zoom. Conversations and file sharing can be done through the course interface.
Courses are taught by faculty chosen by NCCL who bring a deep knowledge of catechesis and years of educating leaders for catechetical ministry.

ABOUT / FAQ
Who should attend this course?
The course is designed for parish leaders, catechists, and interested adults (parents, parishioners, and volunteers) who are interested in how we hand on Christian faith, but who don’t yet know the language or practices for the comprehensive efforts in faith formation that the Church names “catechesis.” The learning will be especially helpful to new catechists and people who are considering serving as a leader for faith education in a Catholic parish or school setting.
Will I need to purchase a book for the course?
There is no required book, but we recommend two books for further learning:
Directory for Catechesis. Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, 2020.
Guided by the Directory for Catechesis: Transforming the Vision and Practice of Parish Catechesis. Catherine LaVecchia, Janet Schaeffler, and John Roberto. Twenty-Third Publications, 2024.
Will there be homework to submit for the course?
There is no homework Participants are responsible for their own learning, though the instructor will facilitate interactions and activities to help deepen understanding and develop skills for talking about the Church’s efforts to hand on the Christian faith in our current culture during and after the course.
Do I need to participate in all of the live sessions?
Yes, ideally. The course is designed to be a real-time experience with each week building on learning from the prior session.
Will the live sessions be recorded?
Yes. The recordings will be posted online on the course website for registrants to access for up to one year following the first session.
